June 1st is "Hunger Awareness Day". So this Saturday, I've organized a very important event and I need your help. Having spoken with Jeff Guarasci at Project Share a few weeks ago, I was reminded of the great work this organization does in our community. So, with nearly 2,000 people on my Facebook page and hundreds of volunteers on my election team I thought we could pull together to support Project SHARE
Project SHARE, established in 1989, is a nonprofit organization that serves residents of Niagara Falls who live on or below the poverty line. The organization helps over 100 families a day through their food bank, emergency housing assistance, utility subsidy, transportation and prescriptions. 39% of the client population at Project SHARE are children under the age 16.
Most of us know about the food bank but did you know that 350 pounds of emergency food is distributed each hour at Project SHARE. Over 700,000 pounds of food is distributed yearly. Families in need seeking food assistance are allowed to come to Project SHARE once a month, where they can obtain food supplys that would roughly last for 3 to 4 days. This week we're going to help Project SHARE help our community.
The "Food-raiser" for Project SHARE will happen at Food Basics on McLeod Rd. and Dorchester Rd. From 11- 3 p.m. we ask you to bring donations of non-perishable goods to help our food bank. You donate food (or a few dollars) and we'll give you a burger, sausage or a hot dog provided by Food Basics and their suppliers. Our friends from McDonald's and Tim Horton's will be there and more!
Please join me and help, I'm calling on you to support Project SHARE this Saturday, June 5 outside Food Basics.
Looking forward to seeing you,
Jim
