June 1st is "Hunger Awareness Day". So this Saturday, I've organized a very important event and I need your help. Having spoken with Jeff Guarasci at Project Share a few weeks ago, I was reminded of the great work this organization does in our community. So, with nearly 2,000 people on my Facebook page and hundreds of volunteers on my election team I thought we could pull together to support Project SHARE
Project SHARE, established in 1989, is a nonprofit organization that serves residents of Niagara Falls who live on or below the poverty line. The organization helps over 100 families a day through their food bank, emergency housing assistance, utility subsidy, transportation and prescriptions. 39% of the client population at Project SHARE are children under the age 16.
Most of us know about the food bank but did you know that 350 pounds of emergency food is distributed each hour at Project SHARE. Over 700,000 pounds of food is distributed yearly. Families in need seeking food assistance are allowed to come to Project SHARE once a month, where they can obtain food supplys that would roughly last for 3 to 4 days. This week we're going to help Project SHARE help our community.
The "Food-raiser" for Project SHARE will happen at Food Basics on McLeod Rd. and Dorchester Rd. From 11- 3 p.m. we ask you to bring donations of non-perishable goods to help our food bank. You donate food (or a few dollars) and we'll give you a burger, sausage or a hot dog provided by Food Basics and their suppliers. Our friends from McDonald's and Tim Horton's will be there and more!
Please join me and help, I'm calling on you to support Project SHARE this Saturday, June 5 outside Food Basics.
Looking forward to seeing you,
Jim

This is about Thanks!
On March 29th over 250 people came together at the Delphi Hall to say “Jim we support you, Jim we believe in you”. I received so many positive and enthusiastic comments - Thank you!
I want to thank Chris Rigas, his manager Joanna and their staff for the great food and stellar service. Thanks to our 30 election committee members and their teams for their help that night with the reminder calls, e-mails, hall set-up, welcome tables, sign-up stations, entertainment and sound system, PowerPoint presentations, and parking control. It was an awesome effort and the evening was a huge success with people signing up to support the campaign in so many ways.
We called it our volunteer recognition night. We could have called it “Meet the team” night but from the beginning I wanted people to know that I understand and appreciate the commitment they are making when they volunteer.
Time is a very precious commodity these days. Like you, spending quality time with my family is a priority. We do this while balancing a work schedule at home, in the office or on the road. Finding time for what is most important is tough enough.
In addition to their busy lives, our election team members will find the time to go door to door delivering flyers or canvassing neighbourhoods with me. Others will be busy putting up signs. We already have over 500 signs requested for your lawns ...that collaboration means a lot to me.
I’ve succeeded in two election campaigns because of my team. My past campaign volunteers have come back to help and they will work together with so many new and energetic people on a team of over 360!
As I write this I realize we are now only six months away from the municipal election and our team is still growing every day.
I’m excited and will make my first campaign promise: I have and will continue to give 100% for you during this campaign and as Mayor of Niagara Falls. I appreciate your commitment,
Thank you

'Politicking'
Since January, when I registered to run for Mayor of Niagara Falls these have been the fastest two months of my life! It has been exciting connecting with old friends while making new ones and humbling as I realize the trust that people are willing to give me...and I have learned something about myself that has been pleasantly overwhelming.
I’ve had the opportunity to attend a number of events. I enjoyed a great night of trivia at Club Italia when the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls held its trivia night back in February. Rotarians volunteer to serve their club, their community and the world. A portion of the proceeds from that night went to much needed relief for the people of Haiti. Service above self is what Rotary Club is all about. Oh and the trivia contest?.... lets move on.
The other event I particularly enjoyed was hosted by Joseph’s Estate Wines. I first met Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga a few years back and she is an inspiration to me politically and personally.
Hazel is a riot. Animated, generous; possessing a wealth of knowledge and a remarkable memory. At 89 she is simply unbelievable. It was an intimate set up at Betty’s in Chippawa as two private label VQA wines were dedicated to Mayor McCallion. A dollar from every bottle sold donated to the Hazel McCallion Foundation for the Arts Culture and Heritage. It was great to be there and great to talk about being Mayor with someone who has served her town so well.
That brings me back to “pleasantly overwhelming”. I like to get out with friends, family and enjoy our community. As a council member, I’ve had the opportunity to attend many events throughout our city and learn about the people who serve our city. My choice to run for Mayor has taught me something. The “P” word. “Politicking” can be a dirty word.
At many functions I’ve attended recently, I’ve noticed a few people now look at me differently. When I see someone at a table and I stop to say “Hi” or I take a picture with friends or I spend a few minutes aside with one person in the room it’s been suggested I’m politicking. I’ve always done these things when I’m out and about so the “P” word caught me off guard.
I thought to myself “Well Jim, YOU wanted to run for Mayor!”... and I realized, that is exactly what I wanted to do. I am politicking. Not in the smarmy way the word has come to be used. I’m running for Mayor in my home town. Where I grew up and my family will grow up. I’m not ashamed of that. This city makes me proud and I want Niagara Falls to become all that it is capable of with strong and effective leadership. I’ve committed myself to public service.
So yes, I’m politicking... and I am proud of it.

Monopoly Vote
Well it's been a pretty exciting 11 days since my Mayoral announcement! Our Facebook group 'Jim Diodati for Mayor' already has over 700 members..wow!! That is incredible since the election is still 9 months away.
Right now there is another race that needs some attention....Monopoly. We need to visit www.monopolyvote.ca and cast a vote (once per day) for Niagara Falls. It seems silly that the makers are putting us in a wild card competition, along with a lot of 'unknown' Canadian cities, given the fact that we are one of the 'world's most famous addressess' and home to over 12,000,000 visitors per year!!
We know that this is about some shameless self-promotion by Hasbro...free advertising through grassroots marketing; yet I think it's important to sound the trumpets and wave the Niagara Falls flag....never take anything for granted! Vote and vote often...the final round of voting will take place Feb. 8-21st.

Campaign for Mayor of Niagara Falls
Welcome to my first blog post for my campaign for Mayor of Niagara Falls. I spent a lot of time thinking about why I wanted to seek this office before deciding to do it, and now I'm committed to it 100%. I love this City!! I have a passion for Niagara Falls and that is why I returned after University! I know as Mayor, along with the rest of Council, I will be able to do much more and I look forward to the challenge!
I have a lot of exciting ideas for our city and I will be using this blog to share them with you as we go, so I hope you will stop by to stay current on what I'm up to. Success doesn't happen by chance – it's only with the support of dedicated volunteers that this will become a reality. If you want to help make positive changes in our city, get involved and help me to make a difference! Please go to my website to register as a volunteer!
